About
El Progreso, located in the heart of Cuauhtémoc, Ciudad de México, stands out as a gem for authentic Mexican street tacos. This spot embraces simplicity with a focused menu offering just three core proteins—longaniza, bistek, and pork—each grilled fresh upon order, preserving their juicy, bold flavors. What makes El Progreso truly compelling is not just the quality of its meats, but the abundance of fresh toppings available, from pinto beans and potatoes to vibrant salsas and cactus, allowing each taco to be customized into a hearty, flavorful experience.
The atmosphere mirrors the true street food culture: quick service, modest seating, and plenty of standing counters that invite you to savor your meal with the buzz of the city around you. The tortillas, handmade and larger than average, provide a tender, fresh base that holds up beautifully to generous fillings and toppings, creating tacos that are both filling and satisfying without pretension.

“ These have been some of the best authentic taco shops we've tried in cdmx thus far. We loved the quick service and there was some available seating but it is not a full sit down if that's what youre looking for. The tacos were fairly priced and had many toppings as options such as pinto beans, potato, and salsas. The meat was coming off the grill as you ordered. Tip was appreciated next to the toppings bar as well. ”
“ Really good tacos for an affordable price, not much seating and the area is a bit small so it does get cramped. I recommend the campechano. They are pretty big so 3 should be enough for most people. Tortillas are made fresh. Card accepted. ”
“ A surprisingly great taco stop. The menu is simple with just three proteins with Longanisa, bistek, and pork, but all were very flavorful and satisfying. The salsa and cactus toppings on the side added a nice fresh touch. It also helps that they take cards, which made ordering easy. ”
“ The cheaper meat tacos my husband ate and enjoyed . The regular meats seem like a pricy taco…. Until you put all the extra toppings on them which makes them the largest tacos ever. We tried beef and a mix and topped them until they almost popped open. Delicious. Super fast and efficient service . ”
“ A no-nonsense taco delight. They have three basic meat options - beef, sausage and ham. Toppings of your choice and fresh cooked soft tacos. People literally line up and eat them on the street. Food was delicious and staff super friendly. ”
